National Night Out on October 1

September 20th, 2013 by Keith Hutchinson

National Night Out, an annual event in Georgetown to support public safety and neighborhood crime prevention, is Tuesday, October 1. Evening block parties are being held from 6:30 to 9 p.m.

National Night Out is sponsored each year by the Georgetown Police Department to help create neighborhoods where people know each other. When neighbors look out for each other, neighborhoods tend to be safer.

At National Night Out block parties, a resident volunteers to host an event at their home or at a nearby park and invites their neighbors to attend. Many block parties are held as potluck events. In addition to a great crime prevention tool, it’s a great way to get to know and connect with neighbors.

There are no fees for hosting a NNO event. For more information about National Night Out, go to pd.georgetown.org/files/2010/10/National-Night-Out.pdf.
