Chase the Chief 5K and Fun Run on April 21
Georgetown Police Chief Wayne Nero will join students, parents, and other community members in the Chase the Chief 5K and Fun Run on Sunday, April 21, 2013. This family fitness event starting at 1:45 p.m. in San Gabriel Park is sponsored by the Georgetown Police Department and the Georgetown ISD Council PTA.
“This is a great event to raise fitness awareness,” says Chief Nero. “We are proud to once again be working closely with the PTA making an important investment in our children. Recent studies show the prevalence of childhood obesity is on the rise. As parents we need to teach our kids to eat wisely and exercise. Grab your running shoes, get off the couch, drop the game controllers, and come out April 21 for a great event!”
Building on Georgetown’s fit lifestyle in the #1 healthiest county in Texas, the event will feature a 5K race and a fun run around San Gabriel Park. Chase the Chief also includes a kid-friendly version of the Police Academy Obstacle Course by the Police Department’s own fitness team from 2 to 5 p.m. A kids’ activities area and community health fair are also at the event. Following the race, there will be an award ceremony, healthy snacks, and plenty of water.
Chase the Chief is the second collaboration between the Georgetown Police Department and the Georgetown ISD Council PTA to co-sponsor a fitness event. Both organizations seek to encourage a fit and healthy community in future events. Chief Nero, along with several members of the Georgetown police and fire departments, competes in adventure races such as the Tough Mudder each year.
Runners in the April 21 event who finish in front of or tied with the Chief will receive a Chase the Chief coin. All 5K finishers will get a Refuse Mediocrity wrist band. All Fun Run finishers will receive a participation ribbon. First-place finishers in each 5K race division will receive the Chief’s Challenge Coin. Second- and third-place finishers in each 5K race division will receive the Georgetown Police Department coin.
