Jim Hornfischer Speaks at Library February 9

Jim Hornfischer, author, editor, and literary agent
Jim Hornfischer, the next speaker in the Hill Country Authors Series, will share some of his experiences in the world of publishing on Thursday, February 9, at 2 PM. He has a unique view of the publishing industry, having written three books on naval history, worked as a New York trade book editor, and he is currently a literary agent for many non-fiction authors through his own company, Hornfischer Literary Management in Austin, TX.
His talk, which he calls “The Adventurous Journeys of a World War II Historian,” will reveal an insider’s view of the publishing business and his writing career which grew out of a lifelong interest in the Pacific war. His books include
- Neptune’s Inferno: the U.S. Navy at Guadalcanal;
- The Last Stand of the Tin Can Sailors: the Extraordinary World War II Story of the U.S. Navy’s Finest Hour;
- Ship of Ghosts: the Story of the U.S.S. Houston, FDR’s Legendary Lost Cruiser and the Epic Saga of Her Survivors.
Mr. Hornfischer will speak in the Community Rooms on the second floor of the library. Doors will open at 1:30 p.m. Ticket prices include delicious desserts and coffee or tea. Advance purchase tickets are $13.00 and event day tickets are $15.00. They may be purchased in Second-Hand Prose on the second floor of the Georgetown Public Library, or by calling Barbara Elrod at 512-931-2484.
The Hill Country Authors Series is sponsored by the Friends of the Georgetown Public Library and proceeds will be used to fund unbudgeted library purchases and projects. Barnes and Noble will be selling copies of Mr. Hornfischer’s books, which the author will be happy to sign, with a portion of the book sales donated to the Friends of the Library by Barnes & Noble.
