AirBorn Opens New Manufacturing Facility

May 20th, 2010 by

AirBorn cut the ribbon on its new 58,000 square foot manufacturing facility in Georgetown yesterday. The new LEED-certified plant employs about 400 people in an industrial park on Snead Drive.

AirBorn makes connectors and other electronic components that are used in the aerospace, defense, energy, medical, and automotive industries.

At the opening event, Cindy Lewis (at right), AirBorn president and CEO, said that parts made by AirBorn are used in space shuttles, satellites, and aircraft, and that they are “still roaming around on Mars,” referring to rover vehicles on Mars that contain AirBorn parts.

In April, AirBorn moved into the new facility from their former manufacturing location on Royal Drive in Georgetown. The new building is twice the size of the former plant, allowing for expansion of the growing company.

Mayor George Garver helped Lewis cut the ribbon to officially open the new facility. “We thank you for not moving your plant to Phoenix,” the mayor quipped.

The Georgetown Economic Development Corporation and the city council are providing a performance-based incentive to AirBorn for the new facility, based on reaching certain investment and job creation targets over five years.

AirBorn is a 100-percent employee-owned company with eight manufacturing sites in the U.S., Canada, and the United Kingdom. The company is headquartered in Texas.
