Emory Bellard of Georgetown was recently named as one of the most memorable coaches of the last 50 years in Texas. Besides inventing the wishbone offense as an assistant coach at the University of Texas, Bellard served as the head football coach and athletic director at Texas A&M and the head coach at Mississippi State. He also won three state high school championships during his remarkable coaching career that included stops at Ingleside, Breckenridge, San Angelo Central and Spring Westfield.

Bellard and veteran Texas sports writer Al Pickett from Abilene have collaborated to write “Wishbone Wisdom,” the story of Bellard’s Hall of Fame career. The book is published by Statehouse Press and distributed by the Texas A&M Press Consortium.
