2010 Census
The 2010 Census is gearing up. The Census data will be used to help determine future population growth in the area, needs for transporation, housing and jobs in the Georgetown area. The Planning Department is involved in a community-task force called the Census Complete Count Committee to encourage participation in the census count.

New Rising Stars Program Offered to Georgetown High School Students
Georgetown Parks & Recreation, in conjunction with Balanced Achievement, is pleased to announce its new “Rising Stars” program for Georgetown High School Students. Rising Stars is a 12-week After-School Elective that will be held weekly at the Georgetown Recreation Center from 4:00 – 5:30 pm, March 22-June 7, 2010.

Road Conditions and Facility Closures Update
Wednesday, February 24, update at 7 a.m.
Roads and bridges are generally dry in the Georgetown area. No reports of ice on bridges or roads.
Georgetown ISD will operate on a two-hour delayed start on Wednesday, February 24. All buses will run two hours late.
Williamson County offices are expected to re-open on Wednesday at 9:30 a.m.

Asst. Chief From DeSoto Named Georgetown Police Chief
Wayne Nero, assistant police chief in DeSoto, will soon become Georgetown’s new police chief. The city council confirmed Nero as police chief at their regular meeting this evening.
Nero has been the assistant chief in DeSoto since 2007. He has been a police officer since 1994 for DeSoto, a city with 48,500 residents southwest of Dallas. [...]

Solid Waste Collection Suspended Due to Icy Conditions
Due to icy road conditions, residential trash and recycling collection has been suspended as of 10 a.m. Tuesday morning. Commercial routes are currently unaffected by this suspension.
Residential collection will resume tomorrow, Wednesday, February 24 (weather permitting) starting with those who were missed Tuesday, then proceeding to the regular Wednesday schedule. Collection start time may be [...]

State-wide Warrant Round-up Starts March 6
Cities and counties will be conducting a coordinated state-wide Warrant Round-up this year in March. More than 210 law enforcement agencies from across the state will be serving warrants for arrest in the biggest-ever Warrant Round-up effort in Texas, which starts on March 6.

Meeting on New I-35 Frontage Road on Feb. 25
A project to build a key section of interstate frontage road in Georgetown is currently in the environmental review process. A northbound I-35 frontage road will be added between Blue Springs Boulevard and University Avenue/Texas 29. The project also includes a southbound-to-northbound turnaround bridge on the I-35 frontage road at Leander Road/RM 2243.
