Pink Heals Tour Event Today at Old Fire Station
The Pink Heals Tour event today will be held in the truck bays in the old fire station at 816 S. Main Street, due to the forecast for rain this afternoon. The old fire station is one block south of the Courthouse Square. The Georgetown stop on the national Pink Ribbon Tour for cancer survivors is supported locally by the Georgetown Fire Department and Georgetown Association of Professional Firefighters.
At 6 p.m., Mayor George Garver and Williamson County Judge Dan A. Gattis will read proclamations. Following will be the presentation of an award to cancer researchers at Southwestern University, music by the Georgetown Fire Department Pipes and Drums Band, and health information booths. Cancer survivors are encouraged to come and sign the pink fire truck that is part of the tour and, at 6:30, participate in a group photo.
Special pink T-shirts with the motto “Cares Enough to Wear Pink” are still on sale at the Visitor Information Center at 101 W. Seventh Street and all Georgetown fire stations. The T-shirt sale is a fundraiser by the Georgetown Fire Department and Georgetown Association of Professional Firefighters for the Breast Cancer Resource Centers of Texas, a local nonprofit that provides education and direct patient and family support for women in treatment for breast cancer. The shirts are $15 and all profits will go to the BCRC.
