Hill Country Children’s Book Festival, November 14
The second annual Hill Country Book Festival, which will be held at the Georgetown Public Library on Saturday, November 14, promises to be a fun-filled and educational day for kids of all ages. Last year, at their first event, the organizers tried to handle books and authors for children and adults on the same day. It proved to be too much activity in one place at one time, so this year they’re dividing the event and kicking off with the young people’s side.
Starting at 9:00 a.m., a wide range of activities will be available for first graders through high schoolers. At 9:30 a.m. magician John Maverick will confound and amaze his audience. After that, look for face painting, arts and crafts, musical entertainment, oral readings by elementary school students, a scrabble tournament and writing activities. Dollar hot dogs will be available for lunch. Some forty children’s authors will have their books for sale and throughout the day eight authors will be giving presentations about their work. Parents and teens should consider attending the college preparation panel discussions that will be held in the afternoon. Writing competition awards will be announced after 3:00 p.m. and activities conclude at 4:00 p.m. For a complete schedule of the day’s events, see www.hillcountrybookfestival.org.
