Grand Opening for New Recreation Center on January 31
Georgetown’s new Recreation Center will be open to the public for its Grand Opening on Saturday, January 31. Ceremonies start at 10 a.m., followed by facility tours and demonstrations. Regular use of the facility begins on Monday, February 2.

Census Bureau Opens Office in Georgetown
The 2010 Census hit the ground in Georgetown on January 23 with the opening of an early local office at 3010 Williams Drive. U.S. Census Bureau officials say the office will serve a 15-county area including Austin in the early stages of the decennial population count.

Power Restored in NW Georgetown
As of 12:35 this afternoon, power has been restored to customers affected by an earlier outage.
The power outage occurred at about 10:20 this morning, affecting some 4,300 City of Georgetown electric customers north of Williams Drive, including Sun City. The outage was caused by the foggy, damp conditions which allowed electricity to arc over insulators [...]

Medical Office Center Starts Construction
A three-story medical office building began construction on January 26 in Georgetown. A groundbreaking ceremony was held that day for the Austin Avenue Professional Plaza at 3201 S. Austin Avenue (see photo below).

Georgetown Citizen Academy Graduates
Seventeen Georgetown citizens completed an eight-week Georgetown Citizen Academy program in the fall. The graduates were recognized by the City Council at the January 13 meeting.

Robert Fite From Richardson Named Fire Chief
A 20-year fire and EMS veteran from Richardson has been chosen to head the fire department in Georgetown. Robert Fite will start as the new fire chief for the Georgetown Fire Department on March 2.
Fite is a battalion chief responsible for special operations and training in Richardson, a north-Dallas suburb with a population of 100,000. [...]
