National Night Out Moves to October

Share

August 1st, 2008 by Keith Hutchinson

National Night Out in Georgetown will be held in October this year. A number of Texas cities have moved this annual outdoor event to the first Tuesday in October this year in order to avoid the hotter weather in early August.

In past years, many Georgetown neighborhoods have organized block parties in support of safety, community cohesion, and crime prevention for National Night Out. The event was held previously on the first Tuesday in August. The 2008 event is scheduled for October 7.

National Night Out is sponsored nationally by the nonprofit organization National Association of Town Watch, on the web at www.nationaltownwatch.org/nno.

If you’d like to get a jump on planning your neighborhood block party for October, you can download a National Night Out Event Application at www.georgetown.org/forms (Search by Name: “National”) on the City website. Just fill it out and send it to Sgt. Loyd Pearson with the Georgetown Police Department, the coordinator for the 2008 National Night Out event. For details, contact Sgt. Pearson at (512) 930-2594 or lpearson@georgetowntx.org.
